I am now home in Cape Town and have had 24 hours to reflect on my incredible 10 day trip.  It is difficult to say THANK YOU and encapsulate all the emotions of joy, gratitude, and wonder in these two words.

For the longest time, I wanted to experience a place where nature, people, and religion blended effortlessly.  I had read so much about Bhutan and it's GNH.  I knew it would be a special place.  What I did not know was how much it would change me inside.  It exceeded every single expectation I had!! It taught me the value of the simple things in life.  It has taught me more than I will ever be able to remember on Buddhism, and it has taught me that being happy enough is better than trying to be happier!

The people of Bhutan have captivated me.  The landscape has left me in awe.  The Breathe Bhutan team has taken a dream and made it a spectacular reality.  Every single one of you made this a trip I will never forget.  You have made Bhutan part of me and I want some small part of me to rest there one day. You masterfully planned an itinerary that not only ticks all the major highlights but leaves a few surprises each day to wander over.

Thank you, Kinley (and Tobgay) for taking the time to visit me in Timphu and for the thoughtful gifts.  I have worn my t-shirt many times and I know it will lead to conversations about memories I have to share with all.  You and your team have taken the time to get to know each person who travels with your company.  This is a rare thing.

Sonam (ST) and Phinzo.  You two are my heroes.  You made every single second of the day worthwhile.

ST, you were destined to be my guide! Your incredible knowledge made you my walking encyclopedia.  As the days unfolded I found the information more and more valuable.  You made every painting inside a temple come to life.  Your understanding of the history and the Buddhist religion is something I will always be very very grateful for.  A trip to Bhutan would be so insignificant if the knowledge of the guide was not as good as yours! I am already wishing I had recorded you talking about all the beautiful paintings and various sculptures in the temples.  I am never going to remember everything! I will miss our quiet walks, where you knew how much silence was important to me, and you left me to stroll (and sometimes huff and puff) in the beautiful surroundings while I got lost in my thoughts. Yo, man, yo...you are a legend!! 😁

Phinzo, my guardian angel driver.  Your peaceful way and beautiful soul were perfect.  I felt so safe on the long and winding roads.  Sometimes only you were able to see the road ahead of us.  Your interactions and titbits of knowledge were so special.  You always had my best interest at heart and I know you have gained a few bicep muscles from carrying my heavy bag each day! (I will learn to travel lighter when I am very old!) Thank you for looking after me! Thank you for always opening the car door for me, and thank you for taking my muddy shoes off after a hike and helping with my raincoat.  Where on earth do I find a gentleman like you in South Africa 😁

I would never hesitate to recommend Breathe Bhutan.  In fact, how could a person travel here without connecting with you and planning their trip through you?  It would just be silly not to.  The accommodation at each stop was beautifully selected.  The staff were always ready to receive you and the friendly smiling faces at every hotel/guesthouse were amazing.  I am a vegetarian, and the food was always fresh and thoughtful.  I have absolutely developed a taste for chili cheese, and who could say no to a veg momo! I will remember each place with fond memories, but for me, Dhumra was a highlight.  Punakha Dzong took my breath away! The Phobjikha Valley was just perfect.  I'm so glad I did the 10 days, anything less would have done the country an injustice.  I would have missed all of the beautiful scenery and walks that the valley had to offer!!

We recently came from a 4 day trip from Bhutan for the Eid holidays and what a memorable one.

I was tasked by my friend to look for a tour agency and I came across Breathe Bhutan from an instagram account that I had been following. It was also validated through youtube videos while researching about Bhutan. It was only a month prior to our intended trip and Breathe Bhutan was so quick and responsive on my inquiry. Kinley and his team made 3 proposals that best suited our travel plans and interests. And that time I included my travel partner in the email exchanges. Jigme, the manager, was even communicating on weekends although he should be replying to my mails the following Monday. Breathe Bhutan prepared all the travel arrangements from visa, itinerary, accommodations and Paro flights.

We opted for mixed accommodation ranging from farm resort, boutique hotel and tent. Tent? They come in luxury complete with your own washroom. The views, comfort, food and hospitality did not disappoint for each of the accommodations we stayed. Each of the places we spent with have their own charm.

Our guide Chozen and driver Karma were like those close cousins that we haven't seen a long time. We were vibin' and instantly having those connections. We are not only learning about Bhutan but it was also a cultural exchange given that we were originally from the Philippines but now living as expats in Dubai.

Chozen is well informed as a guide.  He doesn't rush our activities and will always ask if we wanted to do something outside the itinerary. Through his connections, one time we were invited to a local house to see the preparations for an important Buddhism celebration the following day. He was also helpful and motivational to my friend who struggled in the hike to the Tiger's Nest Monastery. Karma have a light hearted personality and drives safely considering the amount of zigzags on the mountains. Both of them are so fun to be with.

To breathe is to take in air. To breathe is to live. To live is to experience. And to Breathe Bhutan, is to experience Bhutan the way you wanted. No hassles, all relax. Their services are highly commendable. You get the value of what you paid for. Jigme even manage to meet us over one dinner, something not often done by other tour operators, that is meeting their clients. Seamless and perfect is the best way to sum up my experience with Breathe Bhutan. The team lived up to the word “breathe”, from the inquiries until the time we said our goodbyes there was nothing to worry about.

Jigme and the rest of the office team were quick to respond on our inquiries, even on weekends.  We felt really special especially when he went out of his way to have dinner with us on Thimpu and got us a gift! Extremely rare for a tour agency to do something like that. Thank you Jigme!

For the team who were with us on our excursions, Chozin (our lovely guide) and Karma (our safe driver) words could not describe how we appreciate the companionship you guys gave us. Chozin has described and explained in detail the how’s, whys and the what’s not just on the sites we visited but even of the places we were just passing through. He regaled us with his stories, made us laugh and helped me through so much to successfully climb Takstang. Meanwhile, Karma made sure we arrive on time to where we were heading, driving through the winding roads while attentively listening and laughing with us. The guys were extremely polite and always there to help. I was so emotional bidding goodbye to these two. Connection, friendship and memories were formed on this trip.

I just returned from a one week tour with Breathe Bhutan. It was an amazing experience and I will cherish the memories for years to come. My guide, Chozin, and driver, Phuenso went out of their way to make this trip a very pleasant experience. Chozin was extremely knowledgeable about all of the temples and monasteries that we visited as well as the history of Bhutan. At the temple beneath the largest sitting Buddha in the world, we were privileged to be there when a lama was there and received a blessing from him! The homestay with my host, Leki, was a special time and I really enjoyed talking to her. One day Kinley (owner of Breathe Bhutan) joined us for lunch. We booked a 7-day tour with Breathe Bhutan, and it was an unforgettable experience. From the moment our tour guide, Thinley Thaye, and our driver, Chang, picked us up, we felt like VIPs. Thinley's extensive knowledge about anything we asked was impressive, especially considering the barrage of questions I had for him—he answered everything with patience and expertise. He went above and beyond, carrying all my wife’s belongings and ensuring she was comfortable despite her injured knee. Thinley shared fascinating stories about the gods, Bhutanese history, and Buddha, making each moment memorable.

Chang brought incredible positive energy to our trip. His singing, jokes, and constant check-ins to see if we were okay or needed water made every journey enjoyable.

The accommodations arranged by Breathe Bhutan were amazing. My favorite stay was at the monastery, where we got to experience the serene lifestyle of the monks. We sat among the music, prayer, and meditation sessions, and even participated in cooking classes, making the experience deeply enriching. Before we left, we received a blessing from the Lama, which was a beautiful touch.

I have to mention as well: my wife April and I really loved playing archery. We didn’t want to stop playing! Every time we hit the board, we got to dance and sing. We have this beautiful video of us that warms my heart and makes me smile every time I watch it.

Another beautiful touch was having dinner with the owners of Breathe Bhutan, Khinley, his wife, and Ugyen, at their home in Thimphu. This added an extra touch of class and warmth to our experience.

In my opinion, Bhutan is one of the best countries we have ever visited, and this trip with Breathe Bhutan made it truly special. What makes a beautiful country is the people, and our tour guides made our experience very memorable, something we will never forget. When they dropped us off at the airport, it felt like we were having separation anxiety. We will miss you guys. My friend and I recently returned from an 8-night trip with Breathe Bhutan, and I highly recommend visiting Bhutan with them. We were well taken care of even before arriving as the communications and itinerary planning were very quick and responsive. We were greeted at the airport with big smiles and our guide Karan and driver Phuentsho made sure we were safe and comfortable the entire trip. We had some amazing views during the hikes that we did and learned so much about the culture, history, religious customs, and daily life in Bhutan. Our guide Karan was extremely knowledgeable and patient as he answered our many questions. We also ate some delicious local food and got to try many Bhutanese dishes like phaksha paa and ema datshi. All of the accommodations we stayed at were very clean and comfortable. We particularly enjoyed the two homestays where we got to chat with the locals. The hike to Tiger’s Nest Monastery on the last day had some of the best views in all of Bhutan and because of our guide’s experience, we started early enough to avoid the crowds.

I did a 1 week tour with Breathe Bhutan two weeks ago and it was definitely a one of a kind experience.

I started my inquiry just one month before the trip, and team was very quick and responsive. They crafted an itinerary and suited my interests and ability. They gave wonderful recommendations for the accommodations and activities. And I loved how they had an option for a credit card payment.
It was all hassle-free because they would even book your flights and process your visa for you. And will provide you a detailed guide before your trip.

I wasn’t in my best shape when I arrived in Bhutan but my guide made sure to adjust my itinerary based on what my body can handle.

The accommodations were on a different level though, that it ended up as the highlight of my trip. I would always find myself getting super excited every time we arrive at a new accommodation. Homestay, eco lodge, a tent??? It was amazing!

What made the whole trip perfect though was my guide Sonam, and my driver Uncle Wangchuk. From the moment I met them at the airport arrivals, up until sending me to the departures seven days later, it was all perfect.

Wangchuk made sure I start my days with a heart full of gratitude and laughter and has always driven safely to our destinations.

Sonam was very knowledgeable, and insightful. And since I was travelling solo, he sees to it that I’m comfortable and enjoying my trip. While a whole itinerary was already drafted, he would always ask me first if there’s anything else that I wanted to do which I truly appreciated. I think what sets Sonam apart was his willingness to help other tourists who had a bit of trouble.

Overall, Breathe Bhutan didn’t feel like an agency who is just all about the transactions and fees. They made me feel like I was just planning a trip with a family that lives in Bhutan - and it was exactly how they treated me the whole time.

We chose Breathe Bhutan because of their positive reputation involving trips with SMALL CHILDREN. They made everything exceptional for us travelling with children. They were really responsive to optimise the daily schedule to help our needs including the hikes. Our guide and driver were friendly, kind, genuine. They were so attentive to our kids including carrying the youngest one up the mountain hikes. Our kids loved them both and felt very comfortable learning from them and listening to the information.

Our accommodations were unique small hospitable and gorgeous views homestays and were all local and wonderful. We really enjoyed staying at Mendegang Homestay and Dhurma the most. The last nights we stayed at the COMO which while was a top notch hotel also had the small feeling in thier restaurant.

One of our other favourite things was that that the destinations were not overcrowded (except tigers nest). It was so exceptionally nice to travel to a place that wasn't swarming with tourists. Where we could view the local monestaries and learn the history and take photos without a ton of tourists.

Our hikes were good paced, and while it took some time to get used to the high elevation our guide was attentive  to our pace with the small children and planned accordingly. I am so happy that we were able to do the 4 hikes we did and my favorite was the Punakha Valley. This are was exceptionally beautiful and calm and quiet. Again there were only 2 other tourists staying at our homestay and it all feels very tranquil and secluded.

Our boys favourite part was getting their head shaved at the monastery. My son was talking about it for weeks afterwards.

There is really only beyond positive things to say about out 8 day trip to Bhutan with Breathe Bhutan. It is defiantly a place that I would love to go back again. Bhutan is exceptional, calm, serene and everything feels like a once-in-a-lifetime experience. /

I had a short 6 days visit to Bhutan which was organized by Breathe Bhutan. They made my short visit with a memorable trip. The whole trip was well thought out. My guide Kelzang and my driver Phuentsho take really good care of all the details and make me feel like at home.

Breathe Bhutan gave us an immersive experience into a beautiful country filled with breathtaking scenery, friendly people and captivating culture.

For our one-week visit in mid-May, Breathe Bhutan gave us a customised tour itinerary that allowed us to stay overnight in a monastery, hike in places less travelled, and beat the crowd in tourist sites. The staff took great care in our wellbeing, replying to our requests promptly and ensuring that our needs were always met.

On the ground, tour guide Rattu was an excellent hiking guide, and regaled us with tales of Bhutanese folklore and Buddhist teachings during our visits to temples and dzongs. He also captured moments of our trip perfectly with his camera. Driver Jigme ensured that we got to our destinations safely, and kept us entertained with jokes. He also showed his mastery of the bow during our archery sessions, and taught us how to use the hunting bow effectively. They were the perfect companions for our tour.

Thank you Breathe Bhutan, Rattu and Jigme for your hospitality and kindness!
